RCIS Annual Team Endurance race rules

Overall review

Race is open to all levels of competitor

For the first race the class of car will be TRUGGY

Maximum number of teams allowed to complete is 12

Race is to be timed throughout with AMB style transponder system one number per car.

Timing system to be used is RC Scoring Pro

Total time allowed will be 3 hrs

Teams will consist of three competitors

There will be no further substitutions, i.e you can not elect any person , other than a team member, to do a particular task in your place

There will be three positions within each team, Driver, Pit person, Turn Marshall.

Each team competitor will rotate through each position at least ONCE within the allowed race time.

No one person may drive for more than 45 minutes consecutively (see note below for  procedure)

Pit person and turn marshal may change out independently of the driver change and it is SUGGESTED that the turn marshal position is changed out at no more than every 20 minutes. (see note below for procedure)

Designated pits area

There will be a designated major repair pits area away from the pit lane area and this area can be a trailer supplied by the team.

In this designated pits area the team will be able , at any time they need to,  take the car from the track and do any major work on the car as laid out in the rules.

It is suggested that the team make this area as personal as possible and keep it secure at all times.

Driver change procedure:

Driver brings the car into pit lane to pit person

As soon as the pit person has the car off the pit lane surface the driver may take the radio controller with them and descend from the drivers stand. They must not enter pit lane but must wait at the area at the bottom of the drivers stand stairs till the pit person comes to them.  NOTE: This is NOT the designated pit area described later in the rules

The pit man may fuel the car and also do any other required changes , i.e. receiver  battery and tires.

When the changes are complete he may leave the car with the motor stopped or running, The car must be either on a starter box or on the car support rail, It MUST NOT BE LEFT ON THE PIT ROAD SURFACE.  He must go to the driver and take the radio controller ( the driver may have changed the controller battery when the car motor is stopped) The former driver now becomes the pit man and may proceed to the car in pit lane and the new driver may  mount the drivers stand.

Turn Marshal / pit  person change procedure

Between refueling stops i.e. as soon as the car has left pit lane and is running correctly, the Pit person may make his way to the turn marshal point designated to the team.  He may go to the designated pits area and deposit any used tires, empty fuel jugs and discharged batteries. He may want to put them on charge. As soon as he is at the location the former turn marshal may leave his position and then return to pit lane. It is suggested that he returns via the ice box in the designated area and gets a drink and collects fuel, tires and any batteries that may be required

Basic rules in the change over that MUST be adhered to:

Turn Marshal must stay at his position until the reliving person is stood beside him

Discussions between the two people must be kept to a minimum at this time and the  former turn marshal must leave the track area as quickly as possible.

Turn Marshal positions

Turn marshal positions will be designated by the race director and will, as a guide, be allocated by the qualifying position of the team. Each turn marshal area will be marked with a cone carrying the car number that is associated with it.

Failure to keep a person in the turn marshal position AT ALL TIMES DURING THE RACE will disqualify the team from the event.

Drivers.

No person in the team may drive for more than 45 minutes consecutively

Drivers may only drive from the drivers stand and from the position on the stand that is indicated to be that of the team. This area will be clearly marked on the drivers stand wall and top.

Any offence committed by the driver in regard to the above rules will disqualify the team from the event.

Pit Person

May only leave the pit area to do a change out with either a driver or Turn Marshal. They must only pit in the area designated as their team area.

They may keep in the pit area:

No more than one gallon of fuel in sealed containers (including fuel bottles or guns)

A pit bag with tools

A starter box

2 sets of tires

The Pit person will be responsible for filling in the driver and turn marshal change out log sheet that will be supplied by RCIS.  This is the responsibility of the person doing the pit person job at the time of the change.

Any discrepancy in this paperwork will attract a deduction from the final lap total For each discrepancy or illegible entry there will be one lap deducted. Should there be 5 or more it will be the race directors decision that is final and there may be a total disqualification of the team.

Car chassis Rules

Car must comply to existing Truggy rules for normal racing and carry a recognized body.

Car will carry a number ( 1 through 12)  which will be allocated after qualifying rounds

This number will be required on both doors and windshield and will be required to be kept clean at all fuel stops should the weather be adverse

Parts that may be changed in the pits area and that are unlimited

Tires

Batteries

Bodies

All other parts  must be changed in the designated pits area

Limits on parts for change

During the race the following parts may be changed , as units, should they fail but the  available parts, as assemblies, will be limited to the  prescribed numbers.

Complete motor  x 1  ( this may have an exhaust mounted to it for quick change)

Steering Servos    x   2  ( these may be mounted to a battery box for quick change)

Throttle servos     x   2  ( These may be mounted to a battery box for quick change)

Receivers   x   2

Complete Centre differential  x  1

Complete Front  diffs  x 1 each (this may be mounted to arms for quick change)

Complete Rear diffs  x 1 each (this may be mounted to arms for quick change)

Complete Front shocks   x   2 set

Complete rear shocks  x 2 set

Clutch bearings  x 2  ( one set may be assembled  on the allowed motor)

Clutch shoes  x 1 ( may be assembled on the allowed motor)

Exhaust  x 1  ( may be mounted to the allowed replacement motor)

 Unlimited parts for exchange

Front arms and associated pins, hubs and bearings

Rear arms and associated pins, hubs and bearings

Front shock towers including associated fixing screws

Rear towers including associated fixing screws

All drive shafts

All bearings

All diff sub assembly

Parts that can not be exchanged

Chassis plate

What does this all mean:   some examples so you can get the idea

For instance,

The clutch bearings fail the first time,   The quickest way to change out the bearings is to have a set assembled on your spare motor, the car comes in, the pit person takes the car to the designated pit area and simply changes the complete motor with the new bearings attached.  Down time is probably 3 -4 laps.

As soon as the car is back out and running the pits person could take the time to replace the second set of bearings onto the motor that was just taken out in case you have a second failure.  Should you have a third failure you would be eliminated as you would have used your allocated number of spares for that failure

Example 2

Rear diff fails.. car comes in and pit person takes the car  to the designated area and pulls the diff assembly off with arms attached and simply puts a new assembly onto the car. Complete with arms, hubs, drive shafts, bearings, shock towers, shocks.

However,  should the team have a second failure of the same diff then they would have to rebuild either  of the two diffs allowed and fit to continue.

Example 3.

You break the chassis in half… you just did your entry fee !!  No way of fixing the problem.

To police this usage of parts we will be doing a review of all limited parts that each team have available on the Sunday morning. We ask that each team has the limited allowed parts in sealed boxes which we will mark and tape shut for the duration of the race.

As of 22.30 hrs on July 11th 2010 these are the rules.

They are open to discussion and MAY.. NOTE MAY be modified if I get any positive feedback
